Great read. It brings together many different ideas that have been discussed before but not in a comprehensive way. Would recommend it to anyone looking for a truly unique perspective regarding history as we know it. After all it proves that History is truly His story... to the victor goes the spoils and the right to write his story as he wants to.

This Book Shatters the Illusion of World History that We Were Taught in School

I first heard about the Swerdlows when a friend recommended the book True Reality of Sexuality. It changed my life and I've been obsessed with everything from the authors that I could get my hands on. Before reading True World History, I knew that American history and Judeo-Christian history especially, were sugar-coated and edited, but I had no idea until I read this. It blew me away and I couldn't put it down. I was hesitant to read it at first because of some reviews but it is absolutely worth it, especially with the great kindle price.

You'll learn about civilizations on Mars and other planets, the war-like civilizations on Mu and Atlantis. Decades ago newspapers, and even documents by the Smithsonian Institute, talked about Egyptian artifacts in North America. The Chinese were on the west coast, and you'll read about the amazing history of Michigan, yup Michigan, and the different cultures that traveled very far for its copper mines. There's plenty on Hitler and his expeditions to Tibet and Antarctica, and of course the horrible genocides that were carried out by the Catholic Church over the centuries. Reviewers said that this book is full of theories. Nope, it gets you to think outside of the box and really ask questions about what you've been taught. And of course the last chapters show you what you can do to improve yourself and the world.

I felt satisfied with the lengths of the different chapters of this book. I don't know why others complained. People get overwhelmed by information that's new and different. Especially if it counters what we have been told by the status quo, the media, the education system, and our government. Read this book now, it's fun and dangerous to the illusion that's been set up around you. With love...

The Underbelly of History.

Stewart Swerdlow's True World History is a captivating, engrossing, but ultimately uneven reading experience. While there is a great deal of intriguing insight into world history, his sketchy scholarship and breezy attitude detract from what might otherwise be an important work. In the area of suppressed archeology, however, Swerdlow really shines - in fact, whenever he knows his business his prose style tightens and your attention is riveted. Too often, however, his cavalier style is simplistic and dismissive. The maps and graphs are noteworthy, but sometimes outweigh the thin text that accompanies them. This is not an encyclopedia, tis true, but the endless snippets require a bit more substance. The aim of this book is to zero in on historical inaccuracies, and this he does with a laser focus - though often at the expense of complexity, where truth is to be found.

I absolutely recommend this book, however, and will read it again. There are many important passages and much I did not know. In today's zombie zeitgeist it is a brave attempt to shake people out of their complacent, cud chewing mediocrity. The world may be screwed, but it's more interesting than we knew - this he informs us with dash and verve. Lots of astonishing material here, good potential for a mature second edition.

More recently, post-modern approaches to research have expanded on these Western models, building a psychology that takes into account the sociopolitical, historical, religious, ecological, and other indigenous factors that make every culture, as well as every person as agents of their own actions.

Indigenous and Cultural Psychology surveys psychological and behavioral phenomena in native context in various developing and developed countries, with particular focus on Asia. An international team of 28 experts clarifies culture-specific concepts (such as paternalism and the Japanese concept of amae), models integrative methods of study, and dispels typical misconceptions about the field and its goals. A Landmark Book that is fascinating to read as well as devoid of romantic ideas of the east.

Finally a vast tome giving a more clear explanation of the differences between western and eastern psychological constructs that is devoid of the romanticism of Euro-Americans fascination.
This should be required reading in all American Universities Psych 101 courses as to show different models of self other than the American models that are being exported to other countries via American textbooks and Pharmaceuticals.

In Uichol Kim's (et al)"Indigenous & Cultural Psychology" (2006),
contributors scholarly & thinkfully argue that indigenous psychology requires each culture to be understood within its own frame of reference & also examined in terms of its own social & ecological context; the essential areas that cultural anthropologists do study & research cross-culturally as well.
The contributors also present deeply aspects of their own indigenous psychology, demonstrating the diversity & what I call wealth of psychoanthropological mind & knowledge and/or science to be obtained when attention is paid to the world indigenous research & study traditions. According to two of the book's contributors, "Indigenous psychology is an integral part of cross-cultural psychology. Whereas cultural psychology has taken the extreme stance that the essence of culture is unique in its symbols &significance so as to preclude meaningful comparisons between different cultures, the accepted definition of cross-cultural psychology includes two basic dimensions: Universal psychological phenomena across cultures & psychological phenomina specific to cultures."
At the moment, however, "Psychological Anthropology" is the most commonly used term for all of those different sorts of research into cultural variations in psychological processes. The basic question, as Karl Heider (2004)notes, "driving research in psychological anthropology can be formulated as follows: How does culture affect personality (or cognition, or perception, or emotion, or mental illness?)."

Good read but falls short...

If you're looking for the circumstances that shaped the rise of Idi Amin Dada then this can be a start. George Smith details how Amin methodically built a parallel power base on the backs of the Kakwa/Nubian Sudanese all while Obote was in power. It also gives the impending criminal trials of Amin for among other things, the murder of Brigadier Okoya, as the reason Amin seized power. The book highlights the horror Ugandan citizens faced in the hands of the State Research Bureau, Public Service Unit and Military Police, the three instruments of power used by Amin to maintain absolute control over every facet of society.

If you are looking for a lot of detail regarding Amin's reign, this is perhaps not the book. Henry Kyemba's "State of Blood" does a much better job of describing the day-to-day life under Amin.

best book about Idi Amin from an insider

As opposed to the two previous reviewers, I thought this was an extremely well written and researched book. The author was a UN official during the 1970s and was able to draw upon his and his colleagues' experiences to form a very good portrait of one of the worst rulers in Africa's history. He starts with a very informative discussion of Amin's youth and career before he took over the Presidency of Uganda in 1971, destroying such myths as Amin's claim that he fought in Burma and India during World War II. He draws upon personal correspondance with former Ugandan President Milton Obote to provide a detailed account of Amin's coup and his foreign policy with other African countries in the 70s. Going in depth about Amin's search for oil in Lake Albert and his collusion in the assassination of Burundi's King Ntare V, Smith also provides the reader with an account of how bad life was in Uganda in the 70s. He justly praises the bravery of Makerere University students who stood up to Amin several times while condemning the lack of interest of other African politicians (except for Nyerere) and Western governments in putting an end to Amin's bloody regime.
The only criticism I would have of the book is the lack of any serious economic analysis of Uganda in the 70s - after all, it was Amin more than anyone else who turned Uganda from one of sub-Saharan Africa's richest countries to one of its poorest - but this is a minor quibble since that information is available elsewhere. This is a highly recommended book.

not much, but better than nothing

Given the fascinating, albeit monstrous, subject he had to work with, George Ivan Smith came up short. The book is written with less personality than Al Gore! Smith's writing is so dry that it is a struggle to wade through the slower parts(and there are many of them). Amin is infamous for his insanity, his humor, and for his brutality...Smith seems to want to focus more on his politics. Idi's politics weren't very interesting, hence the dullness of the book. Don't get me wrong, some of the madness is captured here. The trouble is that Smith can't keep his obvious bias and lack of comprehension out of the book. Idi Amin was a terrible human being, make no mistake about it, but Time magazine gave me more to hold my interest in one 1977 article than Mr. Smith manages in this 198-page yawn. Look elsewhere if you want to see the train wreck that was Idi Amin!

Excellent for those interested in human biology and/or health

This book epitomizes "a picture is worth a thousand words". I delightfully portrays many pathways and structures that can otherwise be tough to remember, for the student of human biology and health. Frankly, I would recommend it for anyone who is curious about how the body works, as well for scientists who are more feel endocrinology should be part of their area of study.

About the Author
A younger brother of Major General Nguyen Van Hieu, Tin Nguyen was a high school teacher in Vietnam during the war. He escaped Saigon to the US 7th Fleet in one of the USMC Chinook helicopters on April 29, 1975. He is now a guidance counselor in a NYC public school and is the webmaster of generalhieu.com.

Virtue and Corruption in the Viet Nam War

This text presents and illuminating perspective into the highest Vietnamese traditions, and is a fitting posthumous tribute to a ranking member of South Viet Nam's highest military cadres. Written as a sibbling biography, it is richly peppered throughout with mild bias, something freely acknowledged by the author, which nevertheless does not detract from the wealth of objective information, and data that are only enriched by a personal, if family-oriented point of view. This book extolls the virtue of Vietnamese tradition with the highest esteem, as exemplified in this in-depth analysis of one man's contributions to his motherland, set against the backdrop of one of southeast Asia's most tragic and sad chapters in history. Factual information is well presented with adequate supporting documentation and numerous pictures give this historical personage a very vivid and intimate familiarity. The details of some of the information presented can be simultaneously revealing and startling. This book is well-balanced in the extremes: One man's virtues and rapid progression through the military ranks being consistently contrasted with the insidious prevalence or corruption or corrupt practices by the government which he is sworn to protect and defend. The admiration of the author for the Major General lies in stark contrast to the shameful behaviors of so many government officials at all levels, including the presidency, which must bear the brunt of the responsibililty for the eventual downfall of the government of the Republic of Viet Nam. "I am only the instrument of my brother. General Hieu's biography is a self-expression ... General Hieu drew a clear-cut line between the two military and private life areas. This explains why he was able to maintain his integrity and virtue while working with other corrupt and low-moral generals ... The majestic aura that soldiers perceived in General Hieu's personality came from his inner strength, not from an artificial majesty requiring the use of a general's baton, or a combat camouflaged outfit, or a cigar, or an imposing guard detail, etc... And thus they genuinely respected and loved him dearly ..." General Hieu was assassinated in his office headquarters on 8 April 1975. An Uncommon ARVNB General

This biography, a reader would notice at the outset, is not written by a historian, an investigative reporter, or a professional biographer. It originates instead from the pen of a younger sibling seeking to resolve the mystery surrounding his brother's untimely death. This legitimate curiosity has evolved into a collection of articles depicting General Nguyen van Hieu as a family man, a patriot, a military strategist, and a man of integrity. This collection of articles authored by siblings, friends, and fellow military men unexpectedly converges to project a dynamic image of an intelligent soldier and brilliant strategist engaged in the twofold quixotic task of overcoming a corrupted military hierarchy and fighting the invading North Vietnamese communist army. The book presents the reader with glimpses of a man living the yin aspect of the Vietnamese society (egalitarian, flexible, spiritual, congenial) and, at the same time, confronting the yang aspect of the neo-Confucianist military and government hierarchy (male dominant, rigid, self-serving, elitist, concerned with face and status). Without any claim to being systematic or thorough in his research, the author has nevertheless gathered a number of revealing personal anecdotes, testimonies from living witnesses, declassified documents from the National Archives, letters from former military academy classmates, phone interviews, excerpts from books, and so forth. From this cacophony of voices emerges the image of a virtuous man, caring father, loving spouse, and competent general respected by Vietnamese and American military personnel of all ranks. The reader would no doubt be surprised to discover this unsung hero in the stark background of negative memories of the Vietnam War and betrayal of the Vietnamese people by the neo-Confucianist military and government hierarchy. Though modest in its presentation, the book manages to do justice to a dedicated soldier and competent general, who is mostly unknown to both the Vietnamese and the American public. After reading this fascinating biography, the reader comes away wondering what might have been had this uncommon general, who epitomized the true Vietnamese people, been allowed to fully exercise his military competence.END
