nice for coffee table, light on content for serious readers though

This book has loads of lovely arty colour photos, great for the coffee table but is light in content. The typeset layout has the text column taking only one third of the page width, and the entire text would fit into an essay of less than ten pages (by my guesstimation).

There is a nice intro that sets tadelakt into the context of Morroccan culture which is well written. The chapter on the composition and processes of making tadelakt is very superficial, and the discussion of the finishing using black soap is incomplete. I was hoping to learn how the soap is made and of what, and in particular what substitutes might be possible.

I bought this book hoping to get enough information to make and use tadelakt without needing to buy imported product from the other end of the world (quite literally). In this regard I am left wanting as it is not primarily an instructional but more so a descriptive book. To be fair though the price isn't too high for what it is.

The book might suit you though, if you don't have my expectations and it's a "nice" little introductory text (at best an 'article') on the subject.

Some better marketing information re content of the book would go a long way for ensuring buyers didn't have unrealistic expectations.

Best book on Tadelakt I've seen

I own a business in Seattle that imports Venetian Plaster and Tadelakt from Europe. I have over a hundred books about decorative plastering and painting. I think this book, for both professionals and novices, is by far the best book on the subject of Tadelakt I've ever come across. It is compact and to the point. It is accessible for any novice but it is detailed enough for a professional applicator to learn something. Author is very knowledgeable. I've probably read it 3-4 times.

The two star reviewer on this book is disappointed that it does not have actual recipes for making your own Tadelakt at home. They are correct, it does not. Same as books on painting generally do not have recipes for how to make paint. As long as you are not trying to learn how to make Tadelakt from scratch but just want to know what it is, how to apply it, learn about the chemistry, the history, the modern context of Tadelakt, and see some great photos of installations, this is an excellent book.

An Excellent Overview

An excellent overview of the history of Norway. Quite readable. Should one want to delve more deeply into individual topics, e.g. the Vikings, the two Olavs, relations between Norway and its Nordic neighbors, as well as Norwegian resistance during World War II, this work presents a good basis from which to proceed. The reader is also provided with an extensive bibliography and adequate index; however, a work of this scope requires more than one map (and that with little detail).

The reading is a bit dry, but well worth the effort. My husband still has relatives living in Norway, so we are more than casually interested in the history. Learning so much more about all the wars and struggles helps us better understand these proud people.

I was stunned by the value of Norway's history to it's people (my comment, not the author's). Of all national histories, Norway's is perhaps the best suited for guiding it's citizens on the best human path in today's world. They've been on both sides of the coin and have strong examples of what goes wrong when our animal natures drive either national policy or individual action. If only all countries (especially superpowers) had this kind of background...

I confess. Peta Tait has referenced my research in prior publications. So, I shouldn't be surprised how obtuse and uber-intellectual this work is. I haven't plowed through the whole thing yet, but am not entirely sure I'm happy with the conclusions she uses my work to support. Strictly for academic types who have lots of time to contemplate the abstract.

The Greek Gods in their shining glory, and darkest gloom.

Never have I read a book quite like this one. This is not a book full of retelling of myths, but a book full of detailed info on the relevance of these gods to the ancient Greeks. Information on their worship, their origins prior to Olympian times, and many of the contradicting stories of their births, and how these stories relate to the times from which they came. If you love mythology, but are curious as to the more down to earth aspects of these gods, read this, and you will find yourself seeing the gods as more than just the vulgar fictions of a primitive society. Perhaps you will even begin to see them as they should be seen, as Gods.

Exceptional Mythology book!

This may be the most thorough and most readable book I've read on mythology, and I've read dozens. Currently, I'm using it as the primary source for the myth course I teach. It provides information about gods that most other basic myths neglect, often fascinating as well as significant. Get it now - it's been remaindered late in 2000 and will soon be out of print.

A nice start to a series

Sweet Obsession left me feeling very conflicted. The storyline was well thought out and I really connected with the characters. I enjoy BWWM stories and oftentimes the black women come off as stereotypes; I'm glad to say that wasn't the case here. Each character in this story was layered and real. While Noelle did have a few weak moments, she still showed strength. Although Jack was an alpha male, he wasn't an over the top caveman. Each of the supporting characters were diverse and fully fleshed out. It was a very well put together novel.

While I really enjoyed this story, I did find that it could have benefited from a good editor; grammatical errors were all over the place. The point of view also changed throughout the book: Not by chapter, but from paragraph to paragraph. We not only heard Noelle and Jack's thoughts, but the mother, father, friends, brothers, and uncles. It was distracting to have it flip that much, especially within one chapter. While I enjoyed the secondary characters, we were given quite a bit of information for them. I know that this book begins the series, but their sections could have been left for their own books.

Overall I enjoyed the book and will be reading the next installment. I feel like this was a five star book, but the issues listed above really detracted from that rating.

I absolutely loved this book and I can NOT wait for the next installment. I am panting after every last one of those Whiskey Row men something fierce. I really loved all the characters involved, main and supporting. This author is definitely someone to watch out for. She created an amazing love story with good plot twist and surprised. There was only one predictable moment in the book but it was done perfectly and served a purpose. The only thing I wish was touched on more was SPOILER ALERT...whether or not Noelle was drugged by her ex in the photos. I felt that was an opening that should have dealt with possible violence against women but the author never addressed it. It didn't take away from the book though but made me wonder why didn't she address it. IT would have been an interesting dimension to the story. Overall an amazing read and I'm salivating for Darby and Avery's book. I really pray that comes next!!

There is a veritable potpourri of men in Whiskey River!!! From every age to hue D.A. Young brings each male lead forth with teasers to their story. The heroines aren't wimp weak kneed damsels in distress either. Cannot wait for Casey and Sidra or Darby and Avery or Kat and Holt or Guy and...yes fellow readers these characters are introduced with such details you too will want to read their stories.

Jackson and Nadine's story is the first and is hot, hawt, hot!!! Jack is not the stereotypical hero and while Nadine can be obtuse, she finally comes out swinging when it comes to defending her man.

Wish there was a subscribe link for D.A. Young. I most definitely would.

Raw Power

There is much biblical revelation in this book which gives the reader confidence to move in a difficult realm called the unseen. The account of graveyard spirits is comprehensive enough to be able to discern and deal with them practically, specially in situations of delay. Very few books I have read give the reader this depth of knowledge of the process of deliverance. The power of the resurrected and living Christ can be laid hold of in the now and released through declarations and confessions of the extensive prayer points included here. I highly recommend it for those in deliverance ministry.
